Local Sporting Hero
We, the Menstrie Bowling Club, would like to congratulate our Menstrie Lad Steven Allan for the very successful year of 2011. He has also had success in the indoor season of 2012. He was the Scottish under 25's team captain for both the indoor and outdoor teams and the teams won both home international series. He also won the Champion of Champions which was televised. He was picked for the Senior team to play lead in Alex Marshall's rink for the first time on March 10th in Swansea. He was back in Wales on April 16th to play in the World Champion of Champions. He reached the final of the World Indoor Bowling Championship and he went on to win the World Indoor Bowling Championship indoor singles. This is a tremendous achievement by Steven having, only last year, won the Junior World Singles title.
Steven also completed a whitewash of wins by becoming this year's indoor Singles Club Champion and also winning the Pairs, Triples and Fours competions at Alloa Indoor Bowling Club.
The club would like to wish Steven all the best and thank him for putting our wee club on the map.
Menstrie Bowling Club have three qualified coaches and are looking for juniors from the age of 7 years to 16 years to come along and learn the game. Old and new members will be made very welcome.
On behalf of Menstrie, the Community Council would like to add sincere congratulations.

World Champion in our midst!!!
Steven Allen, Menstrie born and bred, went to Nottingham earlier this month to compete in the World Indoor bowls singles under-25 and came home with the title of World Champion. Steven won all his group matches before beating off competition from Ireland in the semi finals then managing a convincing win over a fellow Scot in the Grand Finals (10 - 5, 11 - 1) He was narrowly defeated in the final of the final pairs too. Steven plays indoor bowls in Alloa during the winter months but is a very prominent and popular member of Menstrie Bowling Club.
Over the years Steven has been mentioned any time we had a Bowling Club report in the Menstrie Matters. Since a teenager he has regularly won local and national events. After winning this important title he had to rush of to be part of the Scottish team to beat Guernsey in the Channel Islands.
Steven said that winning the world title "was beyond his wildest dreams". But many people who have seen Steven develop and grow as a bowler were not surprised, knowing he was capable of doing so one day.
As we go to print Steven has been picked to represent Scotland in the Home International in the Spring of next year. He is also to Captain the team which is a great honour because we have been told there are some extremely good players in the team.
Well done Steven: CONGRATULATIONS from Menstrie Community Council on behalf of the whole village.

Looking back on the 2007 Season
Calum Macleod and Colin Drummond reached the Scottish finals at Ayr. They got into the 3rd round but were unfortunately beaten in the quarter finals. On August 17th, Menstrie Gents won the Clackmannanshire League. Congratulations to all.
Apart from the weather the club has had another good season enjoyed by all our members. New members will always be made very welcome.
Looking forward to the winter months
We intend to have social evenings throughout the winter, starting in October. Contact Ali Collier for further details on (number in the phone book) and look forward to welcoming the villagers.
