MENSTRIE WOOD
Autumn 2008
Over the last two months the wood has provided an absolute riot of colour as the leaves have undergone their tremendous kaleidoscope of colour change. Even now some of the trees are holding on to their Autumn leaves, especially the large oak trees in the middle of the wood and the group of beech trees on the northern perimeter of the wood. It is encouraging to note that more of you are venturing beyond the end of the lower path and over the boardwalk and on to the Toll Rocks.
Our two resident buzzards had, I thought, produced just one chick this year. However I noticed four Buzzards circling overhead between the wood and The Kipps (the front of Dumyat) in the past two months.
The wood presents a much more open character at the moment and is well worth an exploratory walk and the opportunity to see more of the wood's wildlife.
