Menstrie Scout Group
Centenary Year activities
|d|
With the many activities to celebrate the centenary of the beginning of the Scout
Movement with that first experimental camp on Brownsea Island in 1907 a very
pleasant memory, the Menstrie Scout Group is preparing to celebrate the hundred
years since Rev. Dr. Boyd, former minister of Menstrie Parish Church, having received
a copy of Scouting for Boys from Robert Baden Powell, started the Group in 1908.
The first of these events will be the traditional Easter Camp at the 3rd Glen campsite
where this year the Scouts hope to be joined by the Beavers and Cubs for some fun
activities culminating in the 3.00 pm Scouts' Own Service. We extend an invitation to
parents, friends and anyone interested to come and join us for the Service.
We are also making preparations for our Summer Camp in July this year with a return visit to an excellent site in the Pitlochry area near Loch Tummel.
Section leaders: Volunteers invited
We are delighted to report that we have one positive response to our request for leadership help in the last issue of Menstrie Matters. I'm sure there must be more people out there who could spare one or two hours each week to support our efforts on behalf of the young people of the village. Please give me a ring - 761465.
