The great outdoors
|d|
Beavers and Cubs enjoyed many activities in the woods and hills towards the end of the
session and are looking forward to restarting once the schools return.
The Scouts, however, enjoyed an excellent summer camp at the end of June when 20 Leaders, Explorers and Scouts made the journey to a very fine campsite at Barnacarry, some 14 miles south of Oban, pleasantly situated amid woods and rolling hills with outstanding sea views out to the islands of Kerrera and Mull. As well as the many campcraft and scoutcraft activities enjoyed by the scouts in this ideal camping environment, day trips were spent visiting -
- Duart Castle on the Island of Mull, the former home of the late Sir Charles MacLean who, as Chief Scout, laid the foundation stone for our headquarters building in 1968,
- the Sealife Centre north of Connel,
- the Clachan Bridge, a four mile walk from the camp, which crosses the Atlantic as it joins the mainland to Seil Island,
- the Island of Luing where the scouts spent a few hours exploring this remote island.
