Looking back on 2011

Much of the year was spent putting together our first anthology, which was launched during the Gala week. Thanks to those who attended: We sold over 50 copies on that night alone! We also sent a copy to Nova Scotia, to be placed in a library there, and with it a card asking if any writing groups would like to get in touch. I am happy to say we are now in contact with an enthusiastic group in the Annapolis Valley.

Throughout the year we have taken part in plenty of fundraisers and our membership has continued to grow. In October we held a writing competition for the young people of Menstrie, the winner of which is announced on this page and in the December 2011 edition of Menstrie Matters.

I'd like to end by thanking everyone who has supported us over the year by giving us space, spending money at our stalls, buying our book, putting posters in shop windows and encouraging us to keep writing: We really do appreciate it! Despite an uncertain start, I think we can say, 2011 has been a success and I'm sure 2012 will build upon that foundation. If anyone is interested in joining the group, feel free to come along. Details are advertised in the Chemist's window and at www.menstrie.org.

We'd like to thank all those who entered. We received several stories and a poem; all in the under 16 age category.

We are delighted to announce the winning entry is Jacob Doig's story "The Scary Fright". Jacob will receive a Waterstone's gift card as his prize, so well done Jacob!
